Faces of Cancer

Cancer is not an old man's disease. It affects people like you and me. I am a survivor. Here are the faces of a few more:

Luminaria donations being accepted at the studio!

For many people who attend Relay For Life®, one of the most moving parts of the event is the Ceremony of Hope. As the light dims over campsites and team members complete laps, the night is brightened by the glow of lighted bags called luminaria, each of which has a special meaning. Some luminaria celebrate the survivorship of people who have battled cancer and lived to tell the tale. Many commemorate the lives of those who have been lost to this disease. All represent a person who has been profoundly affected by cancer and the family and friends who continue to be touched by that experience.

Would you like to honor someone with a luminaria at a Relay For Life Ceremony of Hope? You too can help spread the light of hope and honor or remember those in your life who have been touched by this disease.

Stop by the studio to order your luminaria for this year’s Relay. You can honor a cancer survivor by placing their name under “In Honor of," or you can remember someone who was lost to cancer by placing the name under “In Memory of.” Each individual’s name will appear on a luminaria and each will be lit at the ceremony to shine as a beacon of hope for others.

Please light a candle in honor of or in memory of a friend or loved one who has had cancer. Your contribution will help save lives, give hope, and empower people through the American Cancer Society and its lifesaving mission.

Cancer Never Sleeps!

Did I get your attention? Good! I am heading a team for the "Relay For Life" which will take place May 2-3rd here in Pearland.

Relay for Life starts at dusk and ends at the next day's morning. The light and darkness of the day and night parallel the physical effects, emotions, and mental state of a cancer patient while undergoing treatment.

The RELAY begins when the sun is setting. This symbolizes the time that the person has been diagnosed as having cancer. The day is getting darker and this represents the cancer patient's state of mind as they feel that their life is coming to an end.

As the evening goes on it gets colder and darker, just as the emotions of the cancer patient does. Around 1:00 am to 2:00 am represents the time when the cancer patient starts treatment. They become exhausted, some sick, not wanting to go on, possibly wanting to give up. As a participant, you have been walking and feel much the same way. You are tired, want to sleep, maybe even want to go home, but you cannot stop or give up.

Around 4:00 to 5:00 am symbolizes the coming of the end of treatment for the cancer patient. Once again they are tired, but they know they will make it.

The sun rising represents the end of treatment for the cancer patient. They see the light at the end of the tunnel and know that life will go on. The morning light brings on a new day full of life and excitement for new beginnings for the cancer patient. As a participant, you will feel the brightness of the morning and know that the end of the Relay is close at hand.

When you leave the Relay, think of the cancer patient leaving their last treatment. Just as you are exhausted and weak, so is that person after treatment... but you made it!

It has become my mission to raise $25,000 for the American Cancer Society by participating in the local Relay for Life. I ask that you will consider donating or joining my team to help in this great cause! Please visit this website for more information or to join my team or send me an email! I am so excited about this and know that together my wonderful friends, family, clients and I can make a difference!

If you are a survivor and want to participate, but do not want to be a part of a team, there is a place just for you. The first lap of the relay is the "Survivor Lap" ~ come out and join us! Contact me for more information.

Continue to check the blog for updates on this. We will be having a big event soon to raise money for the American Cancer Society!

This little man from today had a tummy ache, but he calmed down enough to let us get some sweet shots!

Last week in Review

I know I've been WAY behind in blogging my regular sessions. I still have things to share with you from last year, but I'm making an effort to try to stay caught up on my recent sessions again. These cuties were all in the studio last week:

Meet Zoey. She's always fun but makes me WORK to quickly capture those darling expressions. I first took her pictures when she turned ONE, and now she's a big two year old with a precious little sister!

And here is little Harper. I cannot believe she's already 3 months old! It seems like just yesterday I was doing her mom's maternity pictures and then her newborn pictures. Harper is one of those perfect doll babies. She is absolutely beautiful.

And here we have another two year old! This little boy was so precious. His grandmother bought him this kilt for his birthday while she was in Scotland. It was just precious!

And then we have the "S" siblings. Drew got this ball for Christmas from Santa. He was VERY proud of it.

And Miss Ella is growing into such a cutie! I couldn't resist posting the pout... It just had so much character!

My last session last week was the "P" family. We didn't get to finish their entire session because the weather didn't cooperate with our plans to go outdoors, but we did get the studio pictures take. They were a pleasure to work with!
